The organiser of the 10th Katowice Chess Festival has extended the deadline for applications until 7 September (Thursday) 2023 at 12:00 p.m. All those wishing to participate in the Festival on the last day are asked to complete the application form and send confirmation of payment of the entry fee to the organiser’s address.

As a reminder, Festival participants will include:

  • David Navara, Czech grandmaster, European instant chess champion 2022
  • Bartosz Soćko, Polish grandmaster, three-time Polish senior champion and multiple championship medallist
  • Kamil Mitoń, Polish grandmaster, coach of the current best Polish chess player Jan-Krzysztof Duda
  • Mateusz Bartel, Polish grandmaster, two-time junior world championship medallist

The festival will also be honoured by the presence of Judit Polgar

Judit Polgar is the most outstanding female chess player in the history of the sport. In 1996, she became the first woman to be among the world’s top 10 players in the FIDE ranking. At the age of 17, Polgar crossed the 2600 ELO points mark. Ten years later, she broke through the 2700 ELO points mark, becoming the first woman in the world. In doing so, she was promoted to the elite group of ‘super champions’.

She was the only woman to enter the competition for the chess world championship in 2005. In her prolific career, she has won on the chessboard against, among others, Boris Spassky, Garri Kasparov or the current world’s best chess player, Magnus Carlsen.

The 10th Katowice Chess Festival is one of the most important chess events in Poland. The event’s programme will include chess tournaments for people of all ages and skill levels, as well as demonstrations and workshops for children and young people.
